9 reasons mom should play sports

Your sports journey doesn’t have to end when motherhood begins. If anything, it’s more important than ever to take the time for yourself and get back in the game (or start playing)!

Here's nine reasons moms should play sports while their kids cheer them on instead of always the other way around:

1. playing sports is the ultimate form of self care

As moms, you’re told to do “self care” but it can feel nearly impossible to find the time.

Playing sports gives you a consistent opportunity to get out of the house to socialize and exercise — giving you a break and boosting your mental and physical health.

2. IMPROVED PHYSICAL AND MENTAL HEALTH

Playing sports helps us commit to showing up for ourselves consistently in a way that’s both fun and challenging.

Moving your body with a community of people has incredible impacts on your health, no matter what level you play at.

3. INCREASED SELF-CONFIDENCE

Sports are an incredible way to learn, to grow, and build confidence — not just on the court, field, or ice, but in all areas of life (including motherhood).

Facing your fears, learning new skills, and having a community of women behind you will make you feel unstoppable.

4. A BREAK AND ESCAPE FROM REGULAR LIFE

Motherhood is busy and can be draining. Sports are the perfect escape to reset and recharge.

When you’re playing sports, your mind can quiet and you can truly take time to focus on just yourself and not worry about your endless to-do list.

5. POST-GAME HANGOUTS WITH TEAMMATES

Not much beats a cold one with teammates after you’ve just worked your butt off playing sports. Instead of rushing home, take some time to chat with other adults, socialize, and treat yourself!

6. MASTERING NEW SKILLS

Motherhood can shake our confidence, so it’s important we continue learning, growing, and discovering new things, including within ourselves.

It feels so good to finally hit that shot, make that move, or nail that skill you’ve been practicing for months. Sports will help show you how capable you are, in sport and life.

7. RE-DISCOVERING YOURSELF

It’s easy to feel like you’ve lost yourself in motherhood, but sports will bring out a version of you that reminds you of how powerful and capable you are.

Sports can give you a passion and purpose outside of motherhood that helps you feel like yourself again.

8. MEETING NEW PEOPLE

It can be intimidating to find new friends in motherhood. Sports are a great way to meet new people, but they’re especially helpful for moms to meet fellow moms with similar interests. The friendships you make through sports are often lifelong!
