All the volunteer positions with Girls In Sport Canada, require individuals to be onsite at camps.
The Girls In Sport Canada, Camp Leader is a summer camp role. The leader’s main role is to be responsible for a group of 8-10 girls throughout the day camp. The girls at these camps ranges from the ages of 5-12 years old. The days camps will be happening at the following dates:
● King’s University on July 8-12, 2024 from 8:30 am to 3:30pm each day.
● Kings University July 15-19, 2024 from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm each day.
● Orchards Residents Association August 6-9 from 8:45-12:30pm each day.
● Orchards Residents Association August 19-23 from 8:45-12:30pm each day
● Aspen Gardens 2-day camp ~9:00am – 3:30pm, week of July 29-August 2 (exact dates and times to be confirmed)
● Aspen Gardens 2-day camp week of August 26-30 (exact dates and times to be confirmed)
For each full day camp, the camp leader will receive an honorarium of $450 and for the half-day camps the honorarium will be $225. Hours must be completed in full to received the full honorarium.
***If you are not able to make every date above, we encourage you to still apply as you can still be a camp councillor with us. Please indicate your availability in your cover letter and we can work with you to accommodate.
Key Responsibilities:
– Be the main contact for the assigned group of girls for the duration of the camp.
– Be responsible for the location of every girl within their group
– Actively engage and ask questions to the girls during the Power Up! Chat
– Make sure the girls in the group are participating in the activity
– Dealing with an instances of misbehaviour and escalating it to the Director if its required
– Participate in the sports with the girls to the best of their ability
– Make sure the girls are checked in and attendance is taken for their group
– Assist with overall check and check out a the camp
The Ideal candidate demonstrates:
· Strong verbal and written communication in English.
· Comfortable with teaching and interacting with kids ages 5-12 years old
· Enthusiastic personality with a passion for interpersonal communication and engagement.
· Passionate about working with kids
Qualifications:
· Prior camp counsellor or leader experience
· Experience leading a group of kids and experience with encouraging them to participate in activities
· Any sport experience is an asset
· Experience with teaching/coaching kids ages 5-17 years old is consider an asset
· NCCP Coaching Certification in any sport would be considered an asset
Additional Requirements:
· Access to a personal computer with reliable internet connection to receive training materials.
· Access to a reliable means of transportation to get to each camp
· Police Check
